Names of Jesus Session 15 - Bringing it all Together

In the Bible, a name often signifies a person's identity, purpose, and reputation. It's not just a way to distinguish one person from another; it's a profound statement about who they are. Throughout this study, we'll explore how the names given to Jesus—from Old Testament prophecies to New Testament revelations—build a complete picture of His role in God's redemptive plan.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." - Isaiah 7:14

Matthew 1:23 NLT “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

In this final session we will bring all 14 previous sessions together. The names and titles given to Jesus—whether declared by prophets, confessed by disciples, or proclaimed by Jesus Himself—are anchors for our faith. They reveal His Deity, His Humanity, and His Saving Work as the Messiah.

The Names and Titles of Jesus Christ

The names and titles given to Jesus—whether declared by prophets, confessed by disciples, or proclaimed by Jesus Himself—are anchors for our faith. They reveal His Deity, His Humanity, and His Saving Work as the Messiah.

These seven declarations, found exclusively in the Gospel of John, are a direct echo of God's self-revelation to Moses as "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14) and constitute a claim to eternal Deity.

  • KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS:

    • Scripture: Revelation 19:16

    • Meaning: This affirms His ultimate, supreme authority over every earthly ruler and power.

Reflection and Discussion Questions

  1. Alignment with Faith: Which of the "I Am" statements is most challenging for you to live out in your daily priorities, and why? (This ties back to your desire for aligning priorities with God's will.)

  2. Personal Application: How does the name Immanuel (God with us) strengthen your trust in God's guidance during moments of self-reflection or difficulty?

  3. Focus: Take a moment to pray using one of these names (e.g., "Mighty God, I praise you for your strength," or "Bread of Life, feed my soul today"). What does focusing on that specific aspect of His character do for your spirit?
